September 2, 2004

Greetings from the Adirondack Mountains! I'm here for the month of
September having been given an opportunity to get away to spend
time to work on my music without distraction. Well, there are
distractions. It's incredibly beautiful here! There are trails to
hike on foot and lakes to explore in canoe.

Nonetheless, I am finding time to work. I have my violins and
recording equipment here as well as copious notes and recordings of
my playing in classes. I'm working on several CD projects that many
of you are hoping I'll finish ASAP. In this case ASAP will most
likely be in the first quarter of 2005.

First up is Violin for Modern and Ballet, Volume I. By popular
demand I'm creating a CD of music that will sound a lot like my
playing in Modern and Ballet classes. Each piece will have a set tempo
and feel, and each piece will have a clear introduction. There will be
lots of pieces with a "3 feel" in meters like 3/4 and 6/8. Liner notes
will include tempo, length, form and suggestions for use. Additional
information will be posted on this web site. Of course on many of the
pieces, I'll be using ostinato patterns, a.k.a. loops, to layer
multiple violin tracks for the rich texture that process provides. I'm
enjoying working on it, and I know many of you are looking foward to
  me finishing it!

Next are two albums that are part of the series I've been creating
through my work with Anne Green Gilbert. Music for Creative Dance,
  Volume V
, and Brain Dance Music are also eagerly anticipated by
many of you. Volume V will continue the trajectory of the first four
CDs with lots of styles and sounds, pieces with pauses, tempo and
texture changes as well as the continuous pieces - all in the "Contrast
  and Continuum" tradition.

The Brain Dance is a series of exercises that are based on the
developmental movement patterns that humans move through in the
first twelve months of life. Brain Dance Music gives you music
specifically composed for the Brain Dance. Some pieces will include
verbal cues to move from one section to the next. Some of the spoken
text will include imagery and some pieces will focus on specific dance
elements. The pieces will be of various lengths, and all will be well
described in the liner notes. The CD should provide lots of options for
experienced Brain Dancers as well as those just bringing the Brain
Dance into your daily teaching practice.

Beyond those projects, an album of original material is coming
together that will explore the many worlds that have touched me and
that are reflected through my music. I'm excited about the work ahead,
and I hope you'll keep checking in on my progress.
